Vegan Wall Paint: Everything You Need to Know

First of all, what is vegan wall paint? Well, vegan paint is made from ingredients that strictly do not contain animal products, which have also not been tested on animals, and are cruelty free. Vegan paints use animal-free products such as plant based ingredients, or high performing alternatives, which have not been tested on animals.

Many people are unaware of the fact that some paints actually contain materials derived from animals, for instance, casein, a primary protein derived from cow’s milk, is used as binding agent; Shellac, made from beetles, is used as adhesion primer, sadly millions of lac bugs are killed to produce relatively small amounts of resin, other products to be aware of are fish oils and ox gall, amongst others.

Even worse, some paint companies test their products on animals which are definitely not vegan!

It is important to consider that many paints may be labelled ‘eco-friendly’ but this does not necessarily make them vegan. Finding an eco-friendly paint range that is also vegan can be difficult as vegan paints are not always labelled in the typical way many other vegan products are such as food. This means that researching paints before purchasing is key to identifying the best Vegan wall paint for your home.

What are the benefits of using Vegan Paint?

Switching to vegan paint comes with a variety of benefits, for your health, for the environment and for the animals that we share our planet with. A common question people ask is, is Vegan wall paint as durable as regular non-vegan paint- well the answer is YES! Our vegan paint is of the highest quality and durability. Our vegan paint has outstanding resistance to stains with washable properties making it pet friendly and a perfect choice for families.

  • Vegan paint is more sustainable
  • It's cruelty free
  • It creates a less toxic environment in your home
  • Lower levels of VOC pollutants released into the atmosphere
  • Reduces the odour associated with typical wall paint caused by VOCs
  • Improves the air quality of your home

Our Vegan Wall Paint

Here at Victory Colours, after having our own families we became more conscious of our environmental impact and the damage that humans do to our own planet. We realised we cannot directly change everything, but we could do our bit to help our planet. This led us to the creation of Victory Colours by creating our own eco friendly, vegan wall paint. We understand that people feel limited by the lack of colours available in many vegan and eco-friendly paint ranges, which is why we have created an extensive range of colours so we are sure you will find the colour you want.

If you are wanting to test out any of our colour samples, we can send you hand painted Eco Sample Panels. These are great because rather than buying expensive tester pots which will inevitably end up sitting in your garage until it ends up in a landfill site, and will leave your walls resembling a patchwork quilt needing to be painted over. The eco sample panels can be taped to your walls and moved around without damaging any existing decor.

Our favourite Vegan Paint tools

For those who want to adopt a full vegan approach to the redecoration of your home, we also sell a range of quality paint tools and brushes on the market- all tried and tested. We stock the handcrafted Eco Union Paint Brushes range, award winning for its superior results. The products are durable and handles are made using bamboo which is a sustainable material.

Growth in veganism

The popularity of veganism is on the rise and is moving quickly into mainstream culture as people are becoming more aware of ethical and environmental impacts that we have on the planet. The huge growth in veganism has been made possible by the development of quality vegan alternatives.

Either way, it isn't just us here at Victory Colours who see the benefits of vegan paints and products as many famous faces are also starting to incorporate veganism into their home decor as well as their diet. Most recently, you may have heard about Megan Markle and Prince Harry’s painting their home and nursery in vegan, eco-friendly wall paint. Here is our list of some other famous faces who have adopted a vegan lifestyle:
